At YNU, we understand that choosing where you will do your overseas study is not a simple process.  There are a host of things you need to consider in making your decision. Although we are confident you would enjoy your time with us, there are inevitably some questions you would like answers to before making your decision.  Below are a sample of our most frequently asked questions. 

What is the average cost of living in Yuxi?

You will be hard pressed to find a lower cost of living anywhere in China!  Here are just some samples of prices here in our city.

Current exchange rate is (approximately) 1 US Dollar = 7.6 RMB

Taxi: 5-7 RMB anywhere in the city!

Dinner for 4 at a nice restaurant: 75 RMB 

Typical meal in campus cafeteria: 3 RMB 

Express bus from Yuxi to Kunming:  30 RMB 

What housing options are there?

YNU offers students 4 housing options. 

  1. Fully furnished 1 Bedroom apartment (750 RMB per month).
  2. Fully furnished 3 bedroom apartment. (880 RMB per month)
  3. Share a dorm room with 3 Chinese roomates.(400 RMB per month)
  4. Live off campus after your first year of study. 
Does YNU accept short term students?

Yes we do! Although our main focus is on semester and year long students, we are happy to accommodate you for as long as you would like to study with us!

How much is tuition?

Yuxi is home to the composer of the Chinese national anthem. Nie Er composed the anthem when he was just 21 years old. Tragically, he drowned when he was only 23.
